同出而異名 The Same Name With Different Origins
道德經小扇 Series #5
【同出而異名】
Tao Te Ching posits that “being and non-being produce each other” — a duality that underpins all creation. This tension finds perfect expression in the fusion of Nüshu calligraphy and the Taoist text on the fan. The solid ink of the characters (being) stands against the empty silk of the fan surface (non-being), just as the named verses point to the unnamed Tao beyond them.
In this artwork, the fan ceases to be a mere accessory; it becomes a visual metaphor for the Taoist truth that all things arise from the interplay of form and emptiness.
